Meet Us

We call Midwestern Wisconsin home.  We love each of the four seasons, and are outdoors all year long.  We are not your typical breeder. We are small, quaint, and focused.  Our goal in bringing puppies into this world is to share dogs who are socially stable, structurally sound, and to increase the longevity in the Flat Coated Retriever breed.  This is a big job that we take incredibly seriously.

Heather has been involved in the dog world since the age of 10 when she started showing her English Springer Spaniel in 4H.  She has a BS in Dietetics from UW Madison and left healthcare behind in 2005 to dive full time into the dog world.  She owns a training facility in Eau Claire, Wisconsin (www.EMBARKDOG.COM) that offers dog daycare, training classes, grooming, canine massage, and workshops.  Heather is a Certified Professional Dog Trainer (CPDT-KA) and a Certified Canine Behavior Consultant (CBCC-KA).  Heather shows her dogs in agility, obedience, rally and conformation.  She dabbles in nosework, field work, tracking and skijoring.   She is a current member of the Flat Coated Retriever Society of America, the VP of the Upper Midwest Flat Coated Retriever Club, member of the Association of Professional Dog Trainers, member of the International Association of Animal Behavior Consultants, and numerous other local organizations.

Heather and her husband, Chad, live on a 40 acre farm near Mondovi, Wisconsin.  The Buffalo River runs the southern border of our property making it a dog’s dream landscape.  We have 20 acres of restored native prairies and 20 acres of wooded land that we are grateful to be stewards of.  We are avid cyclists, backpackers, XC skiers, hikers, and outdoor adventurers.  Heather is a Master Naturalist for the state of Wisconsin.  Chad is the Principal of CR-BPS . Being outside is something that we do a lot of.  Our dogs are a giant part of every day.  They go to work with Heather, or spend the days meandering through the woods or at the river.

We are interested in families that will continue to love the land with their own dogs, as a Flat Coated Retriever is the perfect companion for any outside adventure.  Water, winter, wind, rain, sun, cold and warm, they are ready for it all.
